David Thomas visits apprentices' unique project

David Thomas meets some of our apprentices

Group Chief Executive, David Thomas, recently visited Southampton’s Nursery Fields development in Denvilles, where he met with a team of apprentices who are working together to build a community centre.

Whilst on site, David was asked to lay the first brick for the unique building project, believed to be a UK first.

David said: “Last year we provided 87 new facilities for local communities including sports, heath, youth and community centres but this is one of the very best examples of business and education working together. The project not only gives young people hands-on experience but will provide a new facility for the community. The enthusiasm and teamwork displayed by the apprentices I met today was simply outstanding”

Also visiting the development was Havant MP Alan Mak who said: “Supporting our local economy and housebuilders is an important local priority for me, and our apprentices are playing a key role in helping deliver much needed homes for our area.”

Kieran Stanborough, Apprentice Site Manager at Southampton, said: “It was brilliant to meet the Chief Executive and the local MP. They were both very down to earth and spoke to us for a long time about the project, asking lots of questions.”
